The President's Message
by Judith Eschberger, Esq.
COME ONE, COME ALL...
As summer races to an end and many of you prepare to get your children ready to go back to school, I thought it would be a great time to encourage all of you to prepare for the upcoming session of the General Assembly. Find some answers to your nagging questions about what's on their agenda for the fall and what's going on with the Lobbying Disclosure legislation introduced in both the Senate and House. We've also invited the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Cabinet Secretaries and Candidates for the State Row Offices to mingle with you at a cocktail party following the seminar. So far, the Lt. Governor and Auditor General have accepted.
Once again, PAGR wants to provide its' members with the latest information as well as one last chance to hit the links before fall arrives. We've got two great events planned to address each of those needs - Lobbypalooza 2004 - our lobbying seminar is scheduled for Thursday, September 23 at Blue Ridge Country Club and the Starner-Spitalny Memorial Golf Outing is scheduled for Thursday, September 30 at Hershey Country Club.
In an effort to address scheduling difficulties, we've made our lobbying seminar a one day event so you won't have to worry about missing two days of work in a row. Lobbypalooza kicks off with what promises to be a lively discussion among Senate and House Republican and Democrat leaders about what's in store for the fall session and how the election is shaping up. The next session will provide you with the opportunity to hone your skills in delivering your message through poll development and grassroots campaigns. At lunch you can network with fellow lobbyist and talk with our vendors to determine how their tracking services might help you get through the end of session. We've also planned a session with Stephanie Vance of Advanced Consulting in Washington, DC entitled Effective Communication; followed by a discussion with Drew Crompton on the Lobbying Disclosure legislation introduced at the end of June and last, but by no means least we'll talk about the ever important issue of raising and spending PAC dollars.
After we've filled your head with information for the upcoming session, we want to invite you to join us for the Starner-Spitalny Memorial Golf Outing one week later. Relax and play some late season golf while contributing to two worthy charities - the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in honor of two fellow lobbyists who passed away before their time.
Both events are very important to our organization and we hope you can be a part of them. See inside this newsletter for more information and registration forms.
