The President's Message

 Thank you for allowing me to serve as PAGR’s president for the current legislative session. Although the election did not have the same drama that we saw in the Senate Leadership elections in November or the last minute thrills of the House Speaker’s election in January, we had better food… and a bar.
One of the things that I want to focus on during my term is the value of a PAGR membership. I personally thing that I get a lot for my $100, and I would guess that you do too or you would not be reading this right now. I think that we as an association need to look at what we offer our members, and what we “give” to non-members. One great example of our value is PAGR has been the point of contact of with the lobbying community for the Department of State in Lobby Disclosure. To paraphrase one of my association’s former chairmen, every lobbyist in Pennsylvania is a member of PAGR; they just don’t all pay dues.
I would like to see us take a look at how we offer PAGR services to lobbyists, and how they pay; or don't pay for those services. It is important that we give our members the best value and that we maximize the number of people who contribute to the association. I don't know what changes we can make; or even if we should make changes but I think that we owe it to ourselves to at least explore our options.
I also want to see PAGR continue its strong tradition of Professional Development. Our budget seminar, Lobbypalooza, and our luncheon meetings all serve to educate our members and make us all better professionals. But I have to ask, can we do more? Our members will have to tell us.
I look forward to working with all of you to make PAGR a better organization and to improve our profession.
